An Introduction to the World of a Female Chef!

Passionate about creating great food.

Hold on make that amazingly delicious tasting, healthy food.

Living the absolute luxury of combining my 2 passions in life - food & travel over a 20 year career.
There really are a couple of stories to be told!

Apparently I can be midly, even intensely obsessed about achieving this perfection thing? Well, I just believe in doing something properly or as my mother always said 'do it well or don't do it at all'

One can only imagine all the madness that goes into achieving perfection & I don't only mean my madness!

This blog is my version of what it is like being a female Chef in such a male & ego dominated world!
I say that with affection boys & sometimes not.. :)

I remember at the tender age of 28 'the boys' were telling me I was getting too old to 'handle the heat in the kitchen' so I had better look at another career!

From working in 'hard core' kitchens & living on adrenaline for 12- 14 hours a day what was I supposed to do? I mean I had all this passion & burning desire still within me busting to be let out & even now I still do. So a change in career? I don't think so, nope just not an option.

But in all honesty the thought of still working with my chopping board up close & personal with the guy's chopping board next to me for more 12 hour days was wearing thin a bit now. Plus the old joke 'women should only be in a kitchen barefoot & pregant' was getting boring too.

So what to do next?

Life as a Personal Chef happened so more adventure & travel was upon me, uh oh..

Now I look at myself in the mirror a few years on from those days & just smile. From being told I wouldn't ever be able to 'handle it in a commercial kitchen' I see that I could 'handle it' & then some & yes I really am wearing designer suits & heels every day. By the way I do cook in my designer suits & heels much to the disbelief & horror of many of my colleagues! Well a girl just never knows who she is going to be cooking for so she needs to look her best at all times..

Girls & guys life as a chef really can evolve into things you can't always initially imagine & it just keeps getting better & better!

Chow for now..
